Our Projects
Rekindling the Art of Giving
At The Helpers, we believe that generosity is not just a virtue—it’s a way of life. Inspired by the ideas in The Gift by Lewis Hyde, our programs nurture a culture of gifting, community care, and mutual joy. These are not acts of charity, but of connection—designed to reawaken the natural impulse to give, to receive, and to belong.
Below are two cornerstone programs that help plant and tend the seeds of a gifting culture in our community:

🌱 The Little Givers Guild
For children (Grades K–5)
Duration: 8-week seasonal sessions
Location: Schools, libraries, or community centers
Children have an instinct for generosity. The Little Givers Guild gives that instinct a place to grow. Through stories, hands-on making, and joyful rituals, this program helps kids experience the magic of giving without expectation. From creating secret kindness notes to sharing handmade treasures with elders, children begin to see themselves as gift-bearers—and carry that identity with pride.
Each session includes:
Story circles rooted in folk tales and wonder
Nature-based and recycled crafts to give away
Group gifting rituals and inter-class surprises
Quiet acts of kindness and community sharing
By the end of the program, each child will have helped co-create a shared gift for the school or neighborhood—something beautiful left behind in the spirit of giving.

🌾 The Commons Table
For adults (age 20+)
Duration: 6–8 biweekly gatherings
Location: Community kitchens, libraries, gardens, or home circles
In a world shaped by transactions, many adults have forgotten the joy of giving freely. The Commons Table is a guided community experience that helps grown-ups unlearn scarcity and rediscover what it means to live generously. Through food, storytelling, small offerings, and shared acts of care, participants begin to reclaim the gift economy as a way of life.
Each gathering includes:
Thoughtful conversations and shared meals
Personal and group gifting exercises
Anonymous acts of kindness in the neighborhood
Hands-on projects to create and steward community resources (like seed libraries, tool shares, or gift shelves)
By the final session, participants will have both given and received—not tracked in dollars, but in meaning, memory, and trust. The gift isn’t just something you give—it’s a story you step into.
